When it’s just you and your thoughts –
What do you think about? Who do you think about?
We are so many different people throughout the day, wearing so many different hats, we often get lost in ourselves until those days nights when it’s just us and our thoughts. For some, this is quite frequent of an occurrence, others may not indulge in such self reflection as often. Either way, we all do it time to time, whether we want to or not.
Our mind is a dangerous place to be alone in and we can get ourselves lost in there if we’re not careful. It’s full of wonder, fabrication, manipulation and anything our subconscious keeps locked away from the general world. Things our subconscious keeps locked away from ourselves.
I tend to spend considerable time in the holes of my thoughts, which at times reflects poorly on my daily interactions as these exercises are exhausting and quite terrifying. However, for me, it is going this deep that allows me to continually challenge and confront myself in efforts to change, grow and produce the best version of myself on a daily basis. I am a major work in progress, as we all are. We can BS the world with our wits, humor, smiles, intelligence, drive, accolades etc. but when the lights go out and it’s just us and our thoughts, we’re all a little bit scared of something and we’re all a little bit lost in someway.
The who and the what is not as relevant as to the why. Why are we thinking about what we’re thinking and why are we thinking about who we’re thinking? Those are the difficult questions our ego often does not like to deal with as we may not always be fond of the true answers.
Whatever the why, own it. We can lie to anyone and everyone, but we cannot lie to our self.
So when the life masks are off and all the hats of personality are hung up, when it’s just you and your thoughts –
